Meet the Puerto Rico Base Owner
Hola! My name is Jim Veiga the base manager for Sailtime Puerto Rico. I’m very proud and happy to introduce this great sailing concept to the waters off of Fajardo Puerto Rico. Sailing is not new to eastern Puerto Rico; just check historic Conquistador and pirate lore. Sailtime is new, however, and we have as our sailing grounds what’s become known as The Spanish Virgin Islands.
As a child I sailed the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. While a teenager I was introduced to the Caribbean and the wonderful sailing here. Needless to say, it was “all over”. What I realized was that you can sail year round, swim year round, snorkel or dive year round, and it never gets too cold! I set my course for a career as a Sea Captain and began really discovering the incredible advantages of Caribbean sailing. I’ve owned, cruised and chartered my own boat for a while, as well as skippered for the larger charter companies. From this experience I realized that owning a sailboat or chartering requires a substantial commitment. Alas, Sailtime has come along to make sailing worry and hassle free.
My attraction to Fajardo and reasons for establishing myself here are many. Here in eastern Puerto Rico we have access the pristine clear waters of the Caribbean, steady trade winds and some of the best sailing destinations in the world. The plentitude of calm anchorages within a one hours sail combined with the world class snorkeling and diving make this a premiere sailing destination.
