ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Certification
(2 days - $412 per person)
Our ASA 101 course puts you on an exciting Hunter sloop to learn the basics of what sailing's all about. You can learn to sail with our home study materials and our 2-day on-the-water sailing class. When you sign up for our Basic Sailing course, you will receive the ASA textbook Sailing Fundamentals, and an official ASA Log Book. You will be encouraged to study certain parts of the textbook prior to coming for your on-the-water sailing classes.

When you arrive in San Diego, CA for your class, you will spend two full days on a well founded and late model Hunter sloop, acquiring hands-on experience under the tutelage of a US Coast Guard-licensed captain and ASA certified instructor. There will be no more than four students on your boat, and each will take turns performing all of the necessary functions to operate the boat. At the end of the second day of your sailing class, you will take the test required for American Sailing Association certification. When you pass the test, the instructor will certify in your Log Book that you have passed the Basic Keelboat Sailing course.

The total cost is $412 per person. This includes logbook and text book. ASA test, certification and ASA membership available for purchase at an additional $39.00 cost.

The Cornnado Islands

San Diego Bay: An Exceptional Boating, Sailing and Fishing Destination

San Diego’s location on the Southern California coast makes it unique. It is the last port in the United States for ships sailing south and the first port for ships sailing north.

Ensenada, Mexico, is a 70 mile sail south, Catalina Island, 70 miles north and there is lot’s in-between. The Coronado Islands, 12 miles to the south, makes for a great day sail or an overnight anchorage. Mission Bay around Point Loma, about a 12 mile sail to the north, gets you to the multitude of restaurants a dingy ride to shore.

The bay itself offers 34 miles of waterfront, parks, restaurants, hotels, marinas, shopping centers and cultural activities, there's always something to do on San Diego's waterfront!

The Big Bay promises entertainment and adventure for the entire family from Point Loma, along Harbor Drive, across the Bay to Coronado, south to the shores of National City, Chula Vista and Imperial Beach. Visit all the attractions and shops, and enjoy the best in San Diego dining, all set against the Bay's spectacular views. The area's beauty is accented by a growing collection of public art, scenic parks and miles of paths for walking, jogging and cycling.

The ambient atmosphere of this picturesque harbor is greatly enhanced by the fact that the weather is always mild, and the people are very friendly. This is because, if you ask them, almost all San Diegans are happy to be here. In fact, what makes San Diego Bay so exceptional is the people.

The bay is protected by a long peninsula, Point Loma, which hooks around the entrance to the bay, sheltering it from the ocean outside. There are numerous slips, marinas, moorings, boating-repair facilities, and marine-supply outlets. Harbor Island West Marina is the home of SailTime San Diego and California Yacht Sales, www.californiayachtsales.com a full service broker.
