The Chart below will help you gauge which level is best for you. It is expected that most people will take between 18 months to 2 years to achieve the SailTime Captain level.

A SailTime SKIPPER has at a minimum:

Become a Member of SailTime
Achieved a recognized sailing training certification from ASA, US Sailing, CYA or RYA in Basic Keel boat operation
30 hours of boating command experience which includes 10 hours in a sailing vessel within 10 feet of the SailTime boat you are joining.
Completed the online boat systems and safety training course offered to SailTime Members
Completed the online training of local hazards and conditions course offered to SailTime Members in each local area
Passed a sailing practical competency test administered by the local SailTime Base Owner which includes the basics of basic keel boat sailing and maneuvering under power. Additional instruction may be required

A SailTime COMMANDER has
at a minimum:

Been an active SailTime Member and SailTime Skipper
Achieved a recognized sailing training certifications from ASA, US Sailing, CYA or RYA on coastal cruising and bareboat chartering
Logged at least 20 sailing trips on a SailTime boat using the proprietary E-ttendant electronic check-on and check-off system
Completed multiple practical sailing experiences listed below on a 30 foot yacht or larger
A SailTime CAPTAIN has at a minimum:

Been an active SailTime Member and SailTime Commander
Achieved recognized sailing training certifications from ASA, US Sailing, CYA or RYA on coastal navigation
Logged at least 50 sailing trips on a SailTime boat using the proprietary E-ttendant electronic check-on and check-off system
Completed multiple practical sailing experiences as listed below on a 30 ft yacht or larger

Anchor Retrieval under sail
Hooking a Mooring buoy
Overnight stays
Cooking on board
Reefing Sails
Heave to
Knots
Bowline, Clove Hitch, Round Turn 2 half hitches, Reef knot, Sheetbend
MOB rehearsal
SailTime Motoring Under Power refresher course
Wing on wing sailing
Tacking around buoys within 10 feet of buoy
Gybes
Steering a compass course for 30 minutes minimum
Docking in at least 15 knots of wind with wind: From behind, from in front, from side.
Backing up to a dock (Mediterranean mooring) in winds more than 15 knots,
GPS positioning on chart
Plotting course on chart
Right of way occurrences with second sailboat with in 100 yards
Pump out, refuel, water tank fill
Spring line tying
Springing off the dock
Rafting up using appropriate spring lines
Docking in unfamiliar ports
Passage as Crew
(60 miles minimum)
