Frequently Asked Questions: Sailing Member
How does a SailTime Membership work?
SailTime is just like a gym membership, but on the water. ; you join at a location near where you live, pay a monthly fee, use the equipment, clean it up when you are finished, and leave - without all the ownership responsibilities. SailTime also provides an online scheduling system and an electronic check-on and check-off system that makes it easy to schedule your boating time and ensures the boat is always clean and ready to go. SailTime is perfect for anyone who wants a smarter and more realistic way to sail on a new boat.
What is the maximum number of fractional boaters on a given yacht?
At this time it is eight. We will be launching new products that will provide additional capacity for differing levels of membership in 2009. All the available time is made available to the Members via our on-line scheduling software. Learn more about how the scheduler allows everyone to get the sailing times they want by visiting www.sailtime.com.
What is the cost?
This depends on the size of the boat. Certain markets may charge more due to local insurance rates, location slip rates and seasonal conditions. For more information visit the locations page of our website www.sailtime.com and click on the base you are interest in.
Will my costs go up if there are fewer fractional sailors available on the boat?
No. The SailTime model has been specifically crafted to alleviate this type of pitfall and ensures that Members pay a flat monthly fee only.
How much cash will I be required to pay when I join SailTime?
This depends on the size of the boat and the location. Typically, for a new Hunter 33, there will be a joining fee and deposit requirement in the amount of $2500 which is a great value considering the size of the NEW boat and the other real costs that it takes to launch such a vessel. The other models have slightly different costs due to insurance costs and other variables. For more information visit the locations page of our website www.sailtime.com and click on the base you are interest in.
What is the length of the commitment?
Most locations offer a one year commitment.
Do I need to sign a contract? Can I see it?
Yes. For more information visit the locations page of our website www.sailtime.com and click on the base you are interest in and out local base owner will be more than happy to share this with you.
Am I a part owner of the yacht when I join SailTime?
No. Shared ownership of the boat creates many complexities. The yacht is owned by a SailTime Owner-Member. If you are interested taking advantage of our Owner Member program, speak to your local SailTime representative.
Are there any other maintenance/upkeep fees that will be assessed?
No. But if you lose an item or damage the vessel you will pay for replacement or up to the insurance deductible out of your deposit. You will be required to be current on your deposit at all times.
Can two people share one membership?
Yes. There are some details that need to be reviewed to do so. For more information visit the locations page of our website www.sailtime.com and click on the base you are interest in.
How do you schedule the sail times?
Our exclusive and proprietary on-line SailTime scheduling software. The software allows you to reserve, wait list and swap schedules 24/7 in real-time by selecting a minimum of seven sail times per month and an unlimited amount on an as-available basis. Additionally, you have the ability to book up to 7 days of sailing by borrowing unused SailTimes.
Is Friday a weekday or weekend sail time?
Friday day is a weekday. Friday night is a weekend evening sail time.
Can I see the yacht ahead of time?
Absolutely! Just call to schedule an appointment.
How is the boat outfitted?
Our boats in each location are fully loaded with luxury appointments and the latest electronics for the appropriate weather and sailing conditions. Speak with your local SailTime Base Owner for specific details.
Can I stay overnight on the yacht?
Yes. Every evening sail time ends at 10:30 am the next morning.
Who is responsible for washing down the boat?
Members wash down the yacht after their use and remove their trash etc. Our Bases use E-ttendant, a wireless Internet connected PDA that Members use to check on and check off the boat each time. If the previous Member left something amiss, they will be sent an email from E-ttendant informing them of their oversight as a reminder. This ensures you get the boat in pristine condition each time you go sailing.
Who is responsible for re-fueling and pump-out of the yacht?
SailTime – at no extra charge to the Member. In the event of an extended stay outing the Member then becomes responsible for these items upon return of the vessel to the marina.
How do you handle irresponsible / uncooperative / non-paying Members?
The Member agreement provides for the removal of Members who abuse SailTime’s policies.
Can I use SailTime to qualify to Captain a yacht on a Caribbean vacation?
Yes. SailTime will help you gain enough experience so that you can qualify to Captain a boat in a vacation destination. Additionally, the system tracks and logs your time on the boat to help you build your sailing resume.
Can I continuously get back to back sail times so long as no other Member is using the time?
Absolutely! Each Member is entitled to unlimited “as-available” use on a 24-hour notice at no extra cost.
I see that you have bases world-wide. Can I use SailTime boats in other locations either temporarily or semipermanently?
Yes. With SailTime PLUS you have access to our ever growing network of bases and boats. With SailTime you not only get to sail near your home, but you can also sail anywhere we have a boat in the water. Certain qualification requirements apply.
Can I become a Member first and then upgrade to become an Owner-Member?
Yes. Owner-Members are upgraded from requests from the existing Membership pool typically. Requests are taken in chronological order and upgrades are issued once a new yacht is required in the fleet. The Owner-Member program is very popular, please place requests early.
This seems too good to be true!
Well, it is good and it is true. SailTime has invested a lot of time, effort and technology into designing a program that provides easy, affordable, smart and accessible sailing NOW!
